Q. How will The Virtual Chautauqua work? Do I need to show up at a certain time?
A. The Virtual Chautauqua is designed to be accessible at your convenience. Most of the events will be held in asynchronous time to allow participants to access the conference site at their own pace and time preference. The main conversation space area will be open for interaction during the dates scheduled with a particular guest. In addition, other opportunities to interact with our guest - just as telephone conference calls - may be offered. Cafe Chautauqua will be open continuously - even between scheduled events - for general community conversation. There will also be a Help Desk available at all times.
Q. Can I join the online activities after the conversation has started?
A. Yes! The Virtual Chautauqua will be ongoing from day one...and...there will be new topics, new guests, new sessions, every few weeks. Plus, the full proceedings will be available onsite in the archives at all times.
Q. Will I be able to introduce my own questions and ideas?
A. There are several ways you can contribute your own questions and ideas. You are welcome to add your thoughts and questions in the main tent area where we have conversations with our invited guests. In addition, the Cafe Chautauqua provides a space for members of the community to contribute topics of interest to them. The Virtual Chautauqua will be hosted by experienced online faciltators who can help you find a way to add your voice.
Q. What are some guidelines for appropriate participation in The Virtual Chautauqua?
A. It's as simple as this: be thoughtful to other participants. We are building a community here. We expect many diverse perspectives, experiences, and insights. This will enrich our discussions and overall learning in The Virtual Chautauqua. Be yourself, share your knowledge, and have fun. The only thing that the your hosts will not accept is hostile and obscene language, but we're confident that participants will use their good judgment and expect this environment to be friendly and supportive to everyone involved.
